We buy coffee the way we would want to sell it.
Origin started in 2012 with a second-hand Probat and one producer in Huila. Fourteen years later we still buy from him first, and we still publish what we paid.

Pre-harvest finance, not a handshake.
We pay 60% of the agreed price before the harvest, so a producer can hire pickers without borrowing at 30%. The balance lands on delivery, at a price fixed in writing in January.
Every contract names the farm, the lot, the altitude and the price. We publish the average price paid per pound each year, against the C-price, because a claim of "direct trade" without a number is marketing.
From farm to bag, in four steps
Buy
January contract, pre-harvest payment, fixed price. No auction, no middleman margin.
Taste
Every lot is cupped three times: on arrival, after resting, and again at roast. Below 84, it goes back.
Roast
12 kg batches on a rebuilt 1978 Probat, twice a week, logged against a profile we keep for every lot.
Ship
Roasted to order, bagged with a one-way valve, and posted within 48 hours of the roast.
“Pay on time, publish the number, buy the same lot next year. That is the whole strategy.”Tom Ellery · Founder
